Barkan Reserve Merlot is a full-bodied and smooth dry red wine from Israel, made from 100% Merlot. The grapes come from several Barkan Winery vineyards in the Upper Galilee. Combining grapes from different vineyards contributes to the wine's complexity and rich fruit character.

100% Merlot

Merlot is renowned for its round, approachable character and soft fruit flavours. This Reserve beautifully showcases these qualities. The wine has a deep colour and a full-bodied flavour with pronounced aromas of cherries, plums, mint and chocolate.

Taste: Dry, full-bodied and smooth, with ripe cherries, plums, gentle spice and subtle notes of mint and chocolate. Character: Fruity, round and full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant finish.

Origin: Upper Galilee

The Merlot grapes come from several Barkan vineyards in the Upper Galilee in northern Israel. By combining wines from different vineyards, the winemaking team can bring together fruit, structure and complexity. The final blend includes wines aged in both new and previously used oak barrels.

Food pairing

This smooth yet full-bodied Merlot pairs beautifully with roast beef, slow-cooked dishes, minced meat dishes and pasta with a rich tomato sauce. Its fruity character also complements mature hard cheeses, sheep's cheese and other savoury dishes.

Serving and storage

The recommended serving temperature is approximately 16 °C. Allow the wine to breathe briefly before serving if desired. Store the bottle horizontally in a cool, dark place with as stable a temperature as possible.
