Barkan Classic Shiraz – spicy red wine from Israel
Barkan Classic Shiraz is a dry red wine from Israel with a smooth, elegant and spicy character. The wine is made from Shiraz grapes grown in Barkan’s vineyards in central Israel, within the Samson region. Ripe dark fruit, spice and velvety tannins come together in an approachable yet characterful Israeli red wine.
100% Shiraz
This wine is made from 100% Shiraz, a grape variety known for its spicy character, dark fruit flavours and smooth structure. In Barkan Classic Shiraz, fruit and spice are balanced by a rounded, soft texture. This gives the wine plenty of character without making it feel heavy.
From Samson in central Israel
The grapes come from Barkan vineyards in central Israel. The current label identifies the origin as Classic – Samson. The warm Mediterranean climate helps the grapes ripen fully, developing concentrated fruit flavours and deep colour.
Tasting profile
Barkan Classic Shiraz has a deep violet-ruby colour. The aroma and flavour show notes of anise, black cherries and peppery spice. The wine is medium-bodied with fine, velvety tannins that blend smoothly with the fruit and spice. This gives the wine a soft and elegant mouthfeel. The finish is smooth, balanced and pleasantly spicy.
Food pairing
This Shiraz pairs very well with poultry, pasta and grilled meats. It is also a good match for well-cooked meat, spicy Mediterranean dishes, grilled chicken or pasta with a rich tomato sauce. Thanks to its smooth tannins, it is also enjoyable on its own.
Serving and storage
Serve Barkan Classic Shiraz at around 16–18°C. It can be worth opening the bottle about 30 minutes before serving to allow the aromas to develop fully. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place with as stable a temperature as possible.
Kosher for Passover and mevushal
Barkan Classic Shiraz is kosher, kosher for Passover and mevushal. The wine contains sulphites.
