Dalton Estate Petite Sirah - Full-bodied red wine from Israel
The Dalton Estate Petite Sirah is a distinctive dry red wine from Israel with a deep colour and a rich flavour profile. Aromas of ripe plums, dark berries and subtle spices combine with a pleasantly soft, velvety texture. Twelve months of ageing in oak barrels adds depth and complexity without overpowering the wine's fruit-forward character. An excellent choice for anyone who enjoys full-bodied red wines with a harmonious balance of power and elegance.
The Petite Sirah grape
Petite Sirah, also known as Durif, is a red grape variety renowned for its intense colour and powerful character. It typically produces concentrated red wines with dark-fruit flavours, spicy notes and substantial tannins. Careful winemaking at Dalton creates an appealing balance between intensity and smoothness, resulting in a full-bodied wine with a velvety texture and lingering finish.
Origin in Israel
Dalton Estate Petite Sirah comes from Galilee, one of Israel's best-known wine regions. Dalton Winery is located in Upper Galilee in northern Israel, an area renowned for its diverse terroir and favourable conditions for viticulture. Dalton also describes a carefully managed vineyard near Gedera, on Israel's coastal plain, as important to this Petite Sirah. Close cooperation between the winemaker and grape grower contributes to the distinctive character of the wine.
Winemaking and oak ageing
The grapes are carefully selected and harvested. During fermentation, the wine is regularly pumped over the grape skins to gently extract colour, aromas and flavours. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and transferred to oak barrels. It then matures for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, adding structure and complexity while preserving the rich dark-fruit character.
Tasting profile
Dalton Estate Petite Sirah has a deep dark-red to purple-red colour. The bouquet offers aromas of ripe plums, dark berries, lavender and black olives, accompanied by delicate spicy notes.
Taste: Dry, full-bodied and rich, with dark fruit, subtle spices and gentle oak notes.
Finish: Long and pleasant, with velvety tannins.
Character: Powerful, fruity, rounded and smooth.
Food pairing
With its full-bodied character and rich flavours, this Petite Sirah pairs beautifully with hearty dishes. It is particularly enjoyable with grilled or well-cooked beef, rosemary lamb chops, slow-cooked stews and seasoned grilled chicken. It also complements pasta with a rich tomato sauce, mature cheeses and grilled Mediterranean vegetables. Its combination of dark fruit, smooth tannins and spicy notes makes it a versatile dinner wine.
Serving and storage
Serve Dalton Estate Petite Sirah at approximately 18–20 °C. Opening the bottle around 20 to 30 minutes before serving allows the aromas to develop further. Store the wine in a cool, dark place at a stable temperature.
Kosher and vegan red wine
Dalton Estate Petite Sirah is kosher for Passover and carries several kosher certifications. The back label specifically states that the wine is not Mevushal, an important distinction for customers who specifically require a Mevushal wine. The wine is also vegan-friendly and contains sulphites.
